Fox Island was born in the middle of the 80s and since then has directed the careers of hundreds of successful models and actors.  Our staff has worked at many major agencies including elite and ford which gives us the inside scoop on how new talent is selected.

Please note Fox Island is not an agency.  We do not solicit or secure employment for talent.  Instead we structure the careers of beginners so that they can be accepted into agencies.

Agents are on tight budgets and because of that they need to be very careful with their selection process.  When an agent signs a new model or actor that agent is agreeing to absorb some financial responsibilities to further the progression of the new clients career.   They do this in hopes of earning back more than they put in.  But if an agent signs a client that works very little or not at all, the agents investment is lost.   It costs an agent around $200 a month to represent a client.  The agent must pay the bills.  Rent, staffing, insurance, advertising and benefits add up quickly and the only way to pay them is if the talent you have signed is earning.  A typical contract with an agent is 12 months in term.  That comes out to $2400 per year for each client represented.  If an agent had 10 clients not work that would cause a loss of $24,000.00 for the year.  Agents can't afford that.  So they are very picky when they select new talent.

They are not going to sign a new client because the client looks good.  Face it everyone trying to get into an agency looks good.  An agent is looking for hot people but also they are looking for those that can earn immediately.  Thats where we come in.

In the old days agents maintained a division called "new faces".  This divisions responsibility was to groom the new talent into working pros.  Despite what you might think models and actors have to know a ton of business procedures to be worth hiring.  The new faces agents job was to instill solid work ethic and on camera skills into the work flow of each model or actor.   This is not happening any longer.  Budget cuts killed off many new faces divisions.  The result is, those that want to get into an agency have to figure out on their own how to become an accomplished professional on camera performer. Our function is to bring new talent up to speed. Those managed by us receive clear concise information about the inner workings of the business and how to use it to get to their goal.
